Harlequins Match Day Support
By Quinssa
November 10 2012
In the immortal words of the Quins Marketing Department last season, “Players make a Team –Supporters make a Club” !!!
At Quinssa, during our AGM in June, it was decided that our Premiership Cup winning Team were developing at a faster rate than their Supporters and the decision was made to work hard on improving all aspects of our contribution to the Club, with particular emphasis on Match Day Support at the Stoop.
Resulting from this decision, Chris Munton was elected to review our Match Day Support (MDS) and investigate how best we can increase the volume, and enhance the quality, of our vocal contribution. The overall objective being a joint action, in tandem with the Players, to create “Fortress Stoop”.
Chris has been busy liaising with Players, Coaches, Management, Mad Max, Supporters et al, to consider our existing chants, investigate new variations and build the volume around the Stadium. Twenty Five ‘Match Makers’ have been appointed at strategic locations in the ground with the objective of starting and maintaining chants, in their area, at appropriate times during each match.
Whilst there has been a great improvement in Match Day Support this season, we still have some distance to travel, to be the Premiership Champion Supporters. We need assistance from all Quinssa members if we are to successfully ‘raise the bar’ and match the achievements of our Players !
Thoughts, ideas and suggestions muchly welcomed……..

The game's afoot;
Follow your spirit: and upon this charge,
Cry — God for Harry! England and Saint George
Having said that, I've said for a long time that we're far too quiet as a crowd, but I daresay the the posters here and Quinssa members are not the problem. We need to get the people who come for a drink and a chat, and are barely interested in the game, to get involved. This will be easier said than done.

Perhaps people would stop leaving their seats five minutes before HT and FT. It is extremely annoying and must be off-putting for the team. Can these people also note that HT is usually 10 or 15 mins long, not 20 or 25! The kick-off time is always widely reported on here, the official website and in the press - remember it and leave enough time to get in to your place for the start of the match

All half times are now 15 minutes.
'Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry quins'
Just a thought....
Anyone fancy having a go at the full words?
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who'll be champions again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a match about to start
For the Sar-a-cens!
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
The extra five percent will
Make the difference, you'll see.
So join in the fight
That will give our team the vic-tor-y!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who'll be champions again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a match about to start
For the Sar-a-cens!
Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance?
Some will fall and some will live:
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of our heroes
Will water the turf: All-i-anz!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who'll be champions again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a match about to start
For the Sar-a-cens!
We should nick the other one.
Red, the blood of angry men!...etc.
especially as we are multicoloured....

I was just a child, playing rugby in the rain
I ran along the touchline, got tackled, felt the pain
Through my blood and sweat and tears, I’d watch the boys run in
Until the idea came to me, I’d be a Harlequin
Some days I learnt to tackle, I learnt to take the strain
I cleared the ball, endured the cold, I wiped away the rain
I am a forward, I am a back, I will rise above the din
With hard work and with courage, I’ll be a Harlequin
I’m the child of a scrumhalf, living my fathers dream
‘Til I became my own man, got chosen for the team
I work hard and I train hard, I will strive to get the win
I’m a fighter, I’m a battler, I am a Harlequin
We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on Earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are the Harlequins
I am a man with vision, living my boyhood dream
I am a hero one and all, I am the chosen team
I am the ruck, I am the scrum, I will run through thick and thin
I have a flame within my heart, I am a Harlequin
I’m the teller of stories; I am just a simple man
I am the one who could have been, I am a rugby fan
I am a voice, I am a cheer, I’m here to watch your wins
The spirit of this great game, we are the Harlequin’s
We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on Earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are the Harlequins
We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on Earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are the Harlequins
We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on Earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are the Harlequins
One way would be for it to be similar to the oggy oggy oggy wasps wasps wasps chant.
say Max or someone with a loud voice and no inhibitions sings
I am Harlequins the crowd respond with "I am Harlequins"
You are Harlequins crowd respond with "you are Harlequins"
We are Harlequins crowd responds with "we are Harlequins"
it would really need a rehearsed large section of the crowd to start this off say from thge pitch plus something in the programme maybe.
We really need some cohesion in our chants, if the north, east, west and south stands are all chanting in time as in the Semi last year it becomes a fantastic stadium chant.
Most times, it is a chant from different parts of the stands and becomes a garbled mixture of unrecognizable noise.
Could we not try something where, say the Etihad stand starts the chant the South take it up in time and we all follow around the stadium but in the same time.
Last year at the semi when Joe was in the middle of the rolling maul, we were all roaring in time and it was a glorious win.
Sorry if I am an OTT fan but, if I can help I shall.
We all need to give it our all this Saturday
