What was the song Roy Castle used to sing? Oh yeah!…Dedication, Dedication, Dedication that’s what you need. If you want to be the best. If you want to beat the rest, whoa-ho, dedication’s what you need….if you wanna be a record breakerrrrrr! Quins 21 -20 Worcester. Match summary by JTD.
At the last minute before the game I was unable to attend due to work commitments and it was too late to call for a replacement, so I didn’t attend the game. It seems as though it was one to miss as according to the barometer of all things Quins..CAW. I thought I’d do a little more research across the width and depth of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and it would seem that the usual suspects and doom mongers on this esteemed message board are right on this occasion. Here are a few highlights from around the internet:
‘I think one thing is for sure - Quins have blown numerous try bonus point opportunities by playing like big Jessies for long periods during several games.
I only listened in on the radio but how they can play a first half like passive donkeys, bearing in mind the second half transformation, is beyond my comprehension.
Very few positives from todays game, playing that badly in the first half against the worst team in the Premiership, no matter how bad Barnes was, was embarrassing.’
‘Thank god a rocket at half time at least seemed to ignite some passion. The team looked like they hadn't played with each other before. However... those good points. Sloan looked decent, solid in defence and ran good angles, a little naive when he was taken into touch but that will improve. Botica's kicking was improved (from the tee!)’.
‘However if we face any team that has a modicum of talent we will be bottom burgled. I fear for us against Sarries... they were on a totally different level to us this weekend.’
‘It was an awful performance against a team that is going nowhere! We are seriously under staffed with England call-ups, injuries and general lack of back up in the squad. We need to seriously think about next season’.
‘Good morning Fellow Quins. Well we've had time to digest what was laid out for us by the boys yesterday. At some point the club may have to add a tagline to our advertising bumpf "Come to our corner of South West London and enjoy a good mugging". That's the last three games where only the most quartered rose tinted glasses wearing supporter can say we deserved a win’. ‘Mr Barnes ensured his love affair with the supporters of the Stoop continues unabated, by awarding some truly baffling decisions against us and kept his card hidden despite repeated infringements by the opposition. I'm interested to know, friends, if you consider winning ugly to give us a fighting chance of 4th worth the cost to our playing souls (doing a Leicester if you will) or would you be prepared to accept getting beaten but playing some beautiful rugby? One things for sure, the boys away with the England camp have nothing to fear for their places in the starting XV. Who was your MOM?’
‘I didn't realise I was coming to the Wayne Barnes show!!!!!’
And then there’s the multi-coloured spectacle brigade:
‘I think, on our day, the brand of rugby which we all know the lads can produce can challenge anyone in the premiership. It is all about getting into that top 4.
However, but still we haven't met the standards from previous seasons and therefore we are struggling because other teams are improving whilst we aren’t.
These two weeks should be spent working out and analysing the season so far. The players honestly don’t deserve a break now. They should be in early Monday morning preparing for a run-in in which we are still challenging for TWO pieces of silverware, whilst not hitting the heights which we know we can.
So lets wait and see and get behind the team, starting with the Sarries game which we CAN win!’
Hmmm…Yeah, Right!!!
The facts do speak for themselves that we have only lost 1 game as yet during the 6 nations but our performances have been getting steadily worse since beating Exeter in The Big Game and even then we didn’t get the bonus point we were cruising to at half time. I can’t put my finger on it but something isn’t right at Harlequin FC.
OK, we avoided (just) the banana skin that is Worcester who I think are doomed, ironically by Sam Smith who seems to like scoring on a particular blade of grass in the North East corner and is Joining Worcester at the end of the season. I too remember their fans gloating and mocking us the season we were relegated so I won’t be shedding any tears for them as what goes around comes around, and it seems to come around more often to Worcester.
So in summary. We won. CAW posters didn’t like the new chants, and the record attempts were cringe worthy and embarrassing according to some. Mr Ellis, Mr O’Shea….The fans aren’t happy guys, and you’re in danger of unravelling all the good that’s been done before you. Things need to improve…..and quickly if we really want to make the top 4 and not get humiliated in the play-offs.
WAKE UP QUINS!!!
