Mike Brown awarded 2014 RBS top player

Mike Brown has been voted the best player in the Six Nations ....
The 16 man shortlist was decided through match statistics, analysing the best performing players across a set range of criteria in this year's RBS 6 Nations. The public then had 48 hours to vote for their RBS Player of the Championship.
Ireland's Brian O'Driscoll came in a close second with 28% of the vote, after his 14 year international career came to an end on a high with Ireland being crowned the 2014 RBS 6 Nations Champions. Reflecting their achievement, fans voted O'Driscoll's teammates in at 3rd place (Andrew Trimble with 10%), 4th place (Jonathan Sexton with 5%) and Rob Kearney in 5th place. Scotland's David Denton came in at 6th and England's Danny Care at 7th.
According to match statistics Brown scored four tries for England, had 65 carries, beat 25 defenders, whilst conceding no penalties and gaining over 540 meters.
Mike Brown commented: "I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who voted for me to be RBS 6 Nations Player of the Championship. I'm extremely grateful and proud to win this award, particularly as it's decided by the supporters. It was disappointing not to win the tournament overall but congratulations to Ireland, and I'm sure we'll come back stronger next season. Finally a big thank you to all my team mates, backroom staff, and coaches for all the help they've given me through the tournament. I couldn't perform on the field without them and it's great to have that support.”
Players at every RBS 6 Nations match this year were awarded (or deducted) points based upon a number of different performance categories which cover all aspects of the game. These categories were proportionately weighted based on the different positions by an algorithm created by RBS and Accenture, Official Technology Partner of the RBS 6 Nations.

However, well done Mike, great to have him recognised by the world at large
BOD had an exceptional career but it's not the point; the vote was for this tournament, not lifetime achievement.

Personally I'm surprised that he was on the short list.
a very nice guy, having spoken to him on a number of occasions. Extremely dedicated and passionate and 100% effort every game for Club & Country.
My ex boss, who is definitely not a Quins fan, has even said that with Brownie playing just down the road from where he lives, he may even make the trip to the Stoop, and may even cheer on Quins - just because of the impact he made. Not normally given to eulogising, he even said that if, when he finally passes, he is not preserved for the nation as an example of how rugby should be played, then it would be a travesty.
As I said to him...we all already knew...
