Great news for Harlequins Women with the return of the versatile Kristine Sommer from the USA ...

A versatile player able to play in both the back and second rows, Sommer, 30, returns to The Quins having previously played for the club for the duration of the 2018/19 Premier 15s season.

 “This time is a little different as I know the players and coaches, know the atmosphere and have settled right into a routine and the full-time playing environment. It’s also going to be a great platform in my development for Rugby World Cup in 2021.

 “I’m always impressed by the way Quins advocate for women’s sports and women in rugby. They are a platform I support whether I play for them or not, which made the decision to come back even sweeter."

 Forwards Coach Karen Findlay said: “It’s great to have such an athlete as Kristine Sommer coming back for the season given what an important year it is with the Rugby World Cup in 2021.

 “We have been in regular contact since she returned to the States at the end of the 2018/19 season to focus on her US Eagles lead into the RWC having thoroughly enjoyed her time at Quins. She played a critical part in the back row in our squad for the year, and it frustratingly ended with an injury.

 “So there is very much unfinished business for her returning for this season and I’m in no doubt she will be raring to go. She brings a high level of experience and real positivity to the squad, and that gives us further depth to be able to effectively manage everyone’s season. It’s great to have her back.”

 Head Coach Gerard Mullen said: “I’m looking forward to working with Kristine. She’s obviously a former and returning Harlequin and was a very popular member of the squad, and I know everyone is looking forward to having her back, she’s clearly a fantastic person and a great player.

 “From what I’ve seen she’s a very mobile player, strong ball carrier, strong tackler and a good lineout leader. She’s going to add a lot of value to the team and to what is already a very powerful forward pack. She’s going to add many more dimensions to the team to make us stronger going forward.”
