Matson in action

How on earth do we follow the drama and excitement of last season? Many pundits say our finish to the season featured some of the best rugby games they'd ever seen. That included Sunday Time rugby writer Stephen Jones  but strangely he has now predicted we will finish 6th this season - some demotion.

We will get a clue when we take on Falcons on Sunday on their artificial pitch. Travelling to the far north on a sunny September day is far preferable to a wrapped up mid-winter foray.

So what of the Quins 2021-22 vintage? There are new faces with Tabai Matson taking over as lead coach and he's brought in an interesting back row in the dynamic  Tonga back-row forward Viliami Taulani from Waikato Chiefs.

He joined from Glasgow Warriors but also has great experience in South Africa with Western Province and Stormers before moving to Glasgow.

No real clues in the two warm-up games which provided a run-out for a host of players. There  was a try fest as we beat Cardiff 45-33 and a tough test at Leinster when we went down 40-21

The one that matters is at Kingston Park
