The last few games: Army, Moseley & Rosslyn Park

Well  it’s now just a week to go before the big game of the season for Quins, it’s not quite do or die but winning on the 26th will pretty much make us safe. But there is still some Quins rugby to watch before the season finishes.

The 2ndXV are playing The Army tonight down at Aldershot KO 19:30, these games are usually great spectacles of running rugby combined with abrasive forward play. It is a way for the players to remain match fit, stake a claim for the 1stXV and end the 2ndXV season on a high.

It will be the chance to see an awful lot of Quins players, the management have chosen two teams, one for each half. So as well as seeing internationals like Duffy, James, Thomas, So’oialo, Monye, Vos and Diprose you’ll also get to see some of the exciting young Academy players like Mike Brown, Charlie Amesbury, George Robson, Alex Rogers and Tom Guest. It is also good to see Adrian Jarvis on the pitch after recovering from meningitis earlier this season.

I’m not quite sure what the Academy props Tom Muggridge and Alex Rogers have done wrong but they are the only two players that are down to play the whole game.

It might also be the last chance we’ll get to see some of the senior Academy players who will be moving on at the end of the season, so why not come down to give them a rousing send off? And it's your chance to show those players who will be selected for the games against Leeds and Sale that we are supporting them all the way.

A number of the players on duty tonight have also been playing for the U19s who have one game left to play before the team is disbanded at the end of the season. They have won through to the National U19 Knock-out Cup Final which is being played at Bedford RFC on Bank Holiday Monday (2^nd May) against a very strong Moseley team. There is some real talent in the Harlequin Academy and these youngsters really deserve our support. So why not bring family and friends along and spend the Bank Holiday away from DIY and watching a rerun of The Sound of Music and watch the future of the club instead. Those of you who have been up to Bedford before will remember what a great club it is – friendly, welcoming, good food and good beer – what more could you want.

The Harlequin Ladies have two more games scheduled before the end of the season, one this Saturday (23^rd) against Rosslyn Park as a curtain raiser before the Rosslyn Park 1stXV play their last game of the season. The Ladies are also finalising the details of the Sue Moloney Cup game which may be after the game against Sale at The Stoop. This is an annual game that is played as a memorial to Sue Moloney who set up the HLFC youth section.

So there are four Quins games you can go along to watch before the season ends and none of them will have the nerve wracking intensity of the final two first team games that are left to play but all should be very enjoyable.
