Kenya Quins beat plucky Mean Machine

Quins remained at the top of the Kenya Cup league after a hard fought 15-7 away win over never say die Mean Machine at the University of Nairobi grounds. Quins were bouncing back after their previous weeks shock loss to Nondies.
Quins started strongly applying pressure and after a long barren spell they were rewarded with a try from the captain Edward Kinyany. Peter Abuoga missed the kick. Quins did not change their pattern of play and Victor Sudi was rewarded with a try as Machine were forced into another mistake. Abuoga had the wrong boots as the score remained 10-0 at the break.
The second half saw Quins come under great pressure from Machine but the defence held firm. However this was not to be for long as Machine scored a try under the posts and converted to make the scores 10-7.
Tactical substitutions by Quins saw the game develop into a furious fast paced exchange. Evans Onyango collected a pass from Namcos Simiyu at the end of the line and raced to score Quins third try of the game. Abuoga with a hat trick of misses the score remained 15-7. Much as Quins tried to look for the bonus point Machine did not buckle and the game ended at 15-7. The four points from that game kept Quins barely at the top of the log.
Focus now shifts to the Safari Sevens as the league takes a break. Other results saw KCB hit Impala 22-8 while Nondies continued their recovery with a 32-26 victory over fast fading Mwamba.
Newsbreak: The Kenya RFU decided on Friday to relive Quins Thomas Odundo of his job as Kenya 15's Coach. Odundo who has still not been officially informed by the Union was sacked with his complete team of Musembi Mumo and Branchi Nginja. Team Manager Wangila Simiyu yet again miraculously for the 3rd time survived the regime change. Odundo was replaced by Mwamba's Emmanuel Okoth with Impala's Charles TC Ngovi as his assistant. Mwambas Director on the KRFU Board Mwangi Muthee pushed for the changes in the technical team. It can be remembered that Odundo and Mwangi both applied for the Head Coach post when the job was advertised in 2004. Quins welcome Thomas Odundo back to the fold and he was readily received during Saturdays game as he watched another former Kenya coach Ken Thimba guide the team against Mean Machine. Paul Odera stepped himself down a fortnight ago. We wish all of the well.
Training for all 15s, 7s, Veterans and Ladies continues at the club.
