Many years ago a relation of mine was playing at U16 level in an international against England so I obviously went to Welford Rd to watch. On the same day there was an U18 game. Of the 12 forwards selected by England that day I can only find 3 who are still in the pro game, with Wales only 2. The backs do a lot better, Jamie Roberts for example was in the Welsh set up at full back. Moral, even if you make it at U18, lots can happen to you in the following years to end the dream. Its tough making it in the pro game.

Eif is absolutely right and something the boys will be warned about. Forwards develop at a somewhat different rate and performance at U18 is not a good indicator of final performance.

Also there is a new U18 lot each year. The main squad however stay together a lot lot longer - so there will always be drop out.

But still - way to go boys!!!!

Very well done to the 4 lads. It'll have taken a tremendous amount of effort & committment on their part to have got this far and long may they continue to progress. The Saints academy seem to be producing more & more, which must be good for the club therefore, fair play to the coaching staff too.

You get that in all levels of life though, people subconciously thinking they have 'arrived' then mentally switching off and there being no further improvement, its a human trait not just limited to rugby or indeed sport.

Suprising in that list though is the number of Tigers lads, all age group squad used to be littered with them not so long ago.

Apparently we at tigers don't think the way they pick these England teams is very good and that the mental aspect (Yes I've been picked I've made it/Oh No I'm rubbish) means its not worthwhile to put players in for England Under 16 trials, this leads on to the coaches not knowing them as well at under 18s and under 20s. I believe Javiah Pohe got into the England system when he lived down in Cornwall, alhough all that could be @#$%& covering from people up here. Our one lad is pretty good though!
