The Summer Quiz 2014 Round 1

It's Summer so this must be Old Pete's Summer quiz! This is not a test of how good you are at googling - finding out the answer from a data base is not the same as knowing it or working it out – but if that’s what turns you on so be it. Answers will be published next Thursday - next round of questions next Friday.

5. What is the connection between  -   Che Guevara ;Marianne Faithful and Dave Myers

6. Where am I ? – The people here love their magpies  ; kittiwakes nest under one of its  bridges  , a cardinal is commemorated in stone.

7.Who am I ?    I was born in Cheapside London ;  I rose through the ranks of powerful institution ; I was made head of the institutions English branch ; But I fell out of favour with the local  big boss –Following a show down in Northampton. I fled to the continent but returned to take up my office again.  The Big Boss was very angry and  his inflammatory words led to my being killed at my workplace.

8. In the 11th  century   which was the largest English city after London.

9. A fruit and a planet  were  essential back up to a successful landing  - what were they

10. Why would King John ,Queen Anne and Queen Victoria be unique amongst English monarchs  ( post the Norman conquest )

No idea withiut Googling but great to have you back quizzing, have learnt so much this morning just trying to find the answers. Looking forward to watching the answers appear. Well done pete. My ambitiom this season is to get just one question right..

4. They were both purchased from another country - The French territory of Louisiana (different to present day Louisiana) was bought from France, and AK from the Russians, and we're hoping that Putin doesn't want it back!

1 is all the Guards regiments; Grenadiers, Scots, Welsh, Irish and Coldstream.

9 is the Mulberry floating harbour and associated PLUTO (PipeLine Under The Ocean) as used in the invasion of Normandy 70 years ago.

8 is probably Norwich, but might be York.

8: I've a feeling its either Salisbury or Winchester, we did the Domesday Book at school and seem to remember there was still quite a strong seat of power in that neck of the woods before the Normans invaded
