6: I think they are all State capitals except Nashville.
Correction, I had the right reasoning but the wrong answer, it is Portland; neither the one in Oregon mor the one in Maine are State capitals.

Point of order for number 9... It's Trafalgar Square but the "monstrous carbuncle", as Prince Charles described the proposed extension to the National Gallery, was never built.
Instead, we got the Sainsbury Wing which is more of a granny flat extension.

However you describe the National Gallery extension, the one-eyed man would have trouble looking down on it - it is at his rear (rear admiral, phnarr, phnarr). He looks down on Whitehall - pretty much as he did through his lifetime

The nearest I have got with a 7 is that they maybe elements of the Robin Hood story - the capture of Richard, the refusal to swear an oath to john and the poll tax applied which is the reason for his revolt.

John O' Gaunt levied a Poll Tax to fund war in France - the very war in which the English captured Jean II owing to the subterfuge of one Denis de Morbecque.
Queen Isabella, wife to Edward II, refused an oath of allegiance to her despised husband and took a lover instead.
The link, therefore, is Edward III, son of Isabella, Sovereign to John O' Gaunt, captor of Jean II.
I really don't care if this is right or wrong - I enjoyed doing the research and finding such links even if OP has something else in mind completely

My first thought when I started this was Charles Bradlaugh and so looked for the link to be Northampton.
I can get to Henry VI having his collar felt by Warwick after Edmund Grey had given way to him at the 1460 Battle of Northampton.
However, Northampton's special relationship with a poll tax eludes me - unless it is the one mentioned in my first answer when the Black Prince passed his helmet around at Delapré to fund his participation in the 100 Years War

OSB Q7 - the answer is as you cautiously suggest is Northampton. you have the first two elements correct - capture of Henry VI after treachery at the battle of Northampton 1460; and Charles Bradlaugh was Northampton's famous atheist refusnick MP.
so what is the third element - a clue - Maggie Thatcher was not the first.
PS no one is absolutely certain as to where the battle took place - we know it was somewhere north of the river Nene in the vicinity of Dellapre Abbey - I favour Tescos Mereway - after all there is now an established link between Supermarkets and Wars of the Roses outcomes.

Q7: I think that the missing link is a meeting of the Commons in Northampton in November 1380, which voted to impose a Poll Tax to finance the war in France - the enforcement of which led to the Peasants' Revolt.
