ROUND THREE - THE ANSWERS!

MING - as in Ming Campbell -Ming The Merciless and Ming Dynasty vases etc.

 

2. Where am I ? My railway station was once described as “A palace with trains“ - a schism in sport occurred here - a statue of a man in a mackintosh stands in my main square.

HUDDERSFIELD -has a very imposing railway station – the Rugby league broke way at a meeting held here. The statue is of Harold Wilson in his Gannex Mac.

 

3 In what way are VW now the top dogs while Peugeot fades and Cap Gemini drop out.

All are sponsors of (on the shirts) French rugby teams - VW =Toulon who are top etc. Peugeot =Toulouse who used to be top dogs and Cap Gemini = Biarritz who have been relegated.

The first one – he really did. Stalin liked a drop or too and several US Presidents were widowers and one was a bachelor.

PORTLAND - all the others are US state capitals

 

7. What is the links between the following - a king captured through treachery ; a refusal to take an oath ; the imposition of the first poll tax.

NORTHAMPTON – Henry VI was captured after the battle of Northampton 1460 in the Wars of the Roses after large sections of his army changed sides – the refusenick was Charles Bradlaugh Northampton famous atheist MP – and the imposition a Poll tax occurred at a Parliament held at Northampton in 1380

 

8. Thanks Rob -keeps my old brain working if nothing else - next week will have a definite theme for all of the questions and that's what we are going to do for subsequent rounds too.
