It might be a brand new competition, but familiar foes lie in wait for Northampton Saints in the Premiership Rugby Cup with this season’s fixtures announced today.

A Franklin’s Gardens showdown with newly-promoted Bristol Bears awaits in round one, before back-to-back trips to Coventry and the West Country to face Wasps and Gloucester respectively in consecutive weekends.

Following a break while the Gallagher Premiership and European Challenge Cup get back underway, the ‘Derby Day’ weekend forms the feature clashes of the competition, and sees Saints host East Midlands rivals Leicester Tigers at Franklin’s Gardens.

Premiership Rugby’s new Cup competition involves all 12 Gallagher Premiership Rugby clubs and will be played over four pool rounds, including the Derby Day, followed by the semi-finals and Final. With total prize money of more than half a million pounds the Premiership Rugby Cup replaces the Anglo-Welsh Cup, and the final will be staged at the home ground of the highest-seeded team.

Saints find themselves in Pool three alongside Wasps, Gloucester and Bristol with the three pool winners and the best runner up moving into the semi-finals.

According to the fixture list on the offy :
Bristol H on Sat 27th Oct
Wasps A on Sun 4th Nov
Glaws A on Fri 9th Nov
Tigs H on Sat 26th Jan

Still not sure what happens in the 2 weeks after that before the final in mid March.

Looks like it.

Wasps site has the same date for your match, and ones that work with the Bristol & Gloucester ones. They play Worcester in 2 Feb 2019 though for their extra game.

What kind of structure is this competition? play a random collection of games then pick the semi-finalists out of a hat?

Checked all the other clubs can't see anyone except you and Wasps with them up yet.

This is a weird competition and no mistake. Three groups with four to qualify. So a second place gained in groups where you dont play each other. Why on earth not four groups of three playing two teams home and away? Not its not great either!

Back to the basic problem, some clubs have 2 home games, others have just 1.

Not sure that some people have read this?
Seems to me there are 4 games, two home two away. Play each in league and then a derby game.
That bit seems unfair as some Derby games will be not so close games?
I wonder how the second place team is determined from the four groups, anyone found that out?

Pointless competition, really wonder how this provides any excitement. Don't think I will be attending any of these games.
