Northampton Saints have made nine changes to their starting XV for the Premiership Rugby Cup trip across the Midlands to face Wasps, with director of rugby Chris Boyd handing Charlie Davies and Fraser Strachan their first Club starts.

There is also a return to action for Heinrich Brüssow for the first time since mid-September, with the powerful flanker recovering from injury to help Saints attempt to take a stranglehold on Pool Three of the competition.

Northampton romped to a 51-24 win over Bristol Bears to kick-off the Premiership Rugby Cup in style last week, but to make it two from two they will need to muster their first win at the Ricoh Arena since 2015.

Centre Strachan will make his first start for the men in Black, Green and Gold alongside Fraser Dingwall in the midfield, while scrum-half Davies will join forces with fly-half James Grayson – named the breakthrough back of the first round of matches by Premiership Rugby earlier this week.

George Furbank retains his place at fullback as does winger Ollie Sleightholme, but Andrew Kellaway comes in to complete the back three after scoring off the bench last weekend.

Hooker James Fish makes his first start since the second round of the Gallagher Premiership, and is joined in an experienced front row by Francois Van Wyk and Ben Franks.

Dom Barrow meanwhile continues in the engine room, with fellow lock Api Ratuniyarawa making his return to action following an ankle injury, and Jamie Gibson – who captains the side – comes into the back row with Brüssow to pack down either side of No.8 Mitch Eadie.

Like the look of that. Good to see some more players getting opportunities. Mitchell rested with lots of rugby to come offers Charlie and Connor the chance to impress.

Back row looks well balanced. Pleasing to see Trinder return and Garside getting another run out as well.

should we be worried that Mikey H and Ehren Painter are both unavailable (concussion and "back")?

I agree, good to see Trinder and Garside listed. Also good to see that Paul Hill is off the injury list but concerning to see Ehren Painter and James Craig out injured.

Injuries will happen. Mikey bashed his head with James Craig last week with Craig seeming to come off worse.

We're well served with Marshall and Fish.

Big Ehren injured his back in training last week. Franks is fine and Hill is fit again. Garside is useful cover. Ehren has played a lot , he needs a rest.

Great to see Trinder back.

Interesting mix. 3 end of career internationals in the forwards compared to the least experienced backline for the first team in a very long time.

We're playing again on Friday, I suspect very few will feature in both. I'll probably see Davis at Gloucester on Friday sharing duties with the skipper.

Hopefully Mikey is just the standard rest period after a head-knock - I'm sure he'll be called on a lot over the season as a whole.

I'd be interested to see the pack weight compared to some of our previous, it strikes me as a much bulkier unit overall, especially in 'the row'.

Although Mikey played on last week, neither of the other players involved in concussion incidents stayed on the pitch and all, including the very unfortunate James Craig, are now in concussion protocol. I really feel for James Craig, how unlucky can you get? he was wearing a scrum cap as well but as we were near the incident you could see he took a blow to the forehead. Once in the protocol you could be out for months as we saw with Dylan and George N

You're right, Saintly Pursuit.

To mitigate concussion, scrum caps would need to be inside the skull, not outside.

I always wore a scrum cap as my ears liked to tear (and was in the row most of the time).

My point was mainly that JC sustained a cut while wearing a scrum cap, it wasn't that clear. It was because the cap played no role in the collision. I was also saying that within the available possibilities he was trying g to protect himself.

You might have been thinking those things but you certainly weren't saying them.
