I know this was talked about around a week ago but seems its come into effect now.
Have to say I immediately do not like it as does not state whether there are any new posts on a subject, so have to scroll to find the new posts if there are any.
Quite annoying (First world problems)

Not sure if it's just me and I'm not saying this because I've designed the other site but I think the layout of the new site is actually harder to use. Navigating between the boards is much harder as you have to click through all the options each time

it’s usual for a new design or layout to take time to get used to

I'll join in on the eye-melting club. Please, if there's any way to change it, please change it. Dark green, maybe?

Its a start, it only looks 10 years out of date now. Fix the colours, fix the text formatting, utilise more of the screen and it might be ok.

Saint Ted, you mention guys hawking it, its my forum and anyone else who's mentioned it on here has done it of their accord as I've not asked anyone else to mention it.
I asked on 11th July who the mods were on this board but got no reply which is why I haven't reached out to you, am I OK to PM you over it?

Yeah that’s fine, I’ve been away since 10th so not seen everything, I’m back Sunday, just PM me the details, I’ll take a look, pass it on to the other mods and go from there, I’m also very conscious that there is another saints forum that is on a decent platform but has just never had the footfall this place has had, forums still very much have a place these days, a lot easier to keep up with than Facebook sites and a lot more detailed.

No worries, cheers for your reply I'll drop you a PM over the weekend. Obviously it would be brilliant if all the sections moved as we'd be able to keep the format which I think is great but on a site that's more modern, safe and offers more features

I happen to agree with him (as would most ux designers), but hey I imagine as usual our opinions have no possible basis that satisfies you.

For accessibility, change the yellow text on a white background to something much darker and up the font sizes if you can (not many people browse these days on screens bigger than 15 inches). Many people also browse these sites now from mobile or tablets so worth reviewing that it works well for those and links/buttons are not too small (always design mobile first for web sites these days). Keep up the good work!

Hi guys n girls ladies and gentlemen. My first comment on the board but I can't help myself. I think the yellow is supposed to be Saints gold. While I agree it is a bit hard to read against the white back ground and if I'm right I can see why the creator has tried to use the club colours although it is missing a touch of green, if that is the case.
A bit less white would be welcome.

Some of it I like - the colour scheme (which was changeable by site admins) needs some work in my view.
Any changes takes some time to get used to.

The "New" posts tags are missing for me on the messages. It shows on the message list page which threads have new posts but no in the thread.

Apart from the yellow writing on white, which I assume is easily altered, I don’t have any problems with the new format.

Apart from the yellow text being hard to read, the huge block of purple at the top (and bottom) seems a bit pointless. Most of it is free of text or images so serves no purpose.
Also, for some reason the new layout doesn't seem to come through on my phone!

Only viewing the site on my phone I was confused about this thread until I saw the response from Nick.
Now it all makes sense😎

and on the Message Board, a way of filtering so that you can choose how to see the message list. ie. thread with most recent post or most recent thread

My thoughts:
I very much hope there's been a huge amount of work under the covers, otherwise the re-skin isn't much to show for the couple of years they've apparently spent working on it. And let's not dwell on the many years of no change before that...
But to release an update without upgrading to SSL is a poor effort.
There's not much of a split between posts - if you look at the Leicester board, they've got blocks of colour between each post, but that might be because they're not showing avatars?
Having a "new" marker against individual posts is essential I think. What would be really nice on top of that is what you see on most other message boards - the ability to go straight to the first unread post.
And while it's nice to see that the search has apparently been fixed at long last, after being broken for several years, it would be nice if we could get back the ability to edit "favourites".
This was removed *many* years ago now - it wouldn't be such a problem, apart from the fact that the navigation drop-down still references them. I always had Bath & Bristol in mine (as well as Saints obvs) because it's where I live, but I briefly had Sale in there for some reason and they've been stuck there ever since because the edit facility suddenly vanished - there's still nothing in "my control centre".
Either drop the whole favourites piece, or bring back the ability to edit the damn things!
One other thing: It would be nice if the navigation between sites took you to the equivalent position - so if you're reading the message board, then it takes you to the other site's message board, not to their front page.
OK, one more - I don't get why the intra-site navigation includes "login" as a drop-down on the "Message Board" option. For one thing, I'm already logged in.
Perhaps this could change to a drop-down list of sub-forums?

Also, perhaps within each thread, an option to go to the 1st post of the page.

Are you using mobile or desktop version, I still get the new tag on both.
It will only show the first time you click a thread with new marked on it though until another new post is made

This is a global setting on the board, in the past the majority have always voted on the newest thread being at the top of the page, it can be changed so that the thread with the most recent post is at the top. Might put it to the vote again, it's been a few years

I'm not seeing a "new" tag in the body of the threads on the desktop site. Last time I looked, the mobile version looked exactly the same, not sure they're rolled out any changes to that yet?

Going to the last post isn't much use - the first unread post is the useful one, even more so when it's on a different page to the last post.

Colour change is a big improvement.
Still need to do something about the separation of the comments.
Still no "Like" facility on comments.
Viewing on a laptop gives me the impression of a lot of wasted screen space? It would appear to take up only 50% of the screen width.

I’m using an iPad. New appears on the thread list but not against new messages within a thread.

'new' should be there on the list page of the message board.
Fixed the quick nav so that it goes to message board when it should rather than the front page.
I'm looking into a link to last unread as well as just to last post to help with long threads.
HTTPS will come in time but needs a bigger update in the back end than we thought.

Hi Jon
Good work on fixing the link to the message board so quickly, thanks.
The issue with "new" is that individual posts in a thread aren't identified as such (and the key point is that they used to be, so the feature has been lost), so it's an effort to find where you were with reading a thread. Going to the most recent post isn't enough as there are often several to read.
And to be blunt, while the cosmetic stuff is a more obvious upgrade, I think HTTPS should perhaps have been a priority. Work on it behind the scenes (promote it as improving our security), with a promise of front-end improvements to follow...

Aha, just seen on the Leicester board that clicking on "new" in the thread list takes you to the first new message in the thread - the link has a "gotonewpost" tag.
Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
