Looks a strong team. Hope Bath put out something similar to "test" how strong we may be this season?

What the hell! Social media team drop the news on the wrong day?! Made me think I was going mad!
Also known as, guess which match we haven't sold many tickets for so we'll get out the news of a near first XV as soon as poss!

I think he should get a pat on the back! I love "applicable" names.
Buckingham have a flanker named "Fellingham". Brilliant!
And as for Beltus.......

Anyone know much about Toby Thame? He's had a lot of game time in these prem cup games, and is now on the bench again today. Does this mean that he's now leapfrogged Litchfield, in terms of being the most promising young centre? And in a 23 that is otherwise first team squad (apart from McParland), interesting that he's on the bench instead of Joel Matavesi. J. Matavesi signed a new contract in June, which feels a bit weird if we're not going to use him.

I presume mcparland is ahead of Joel matavesi in the scrum half queue.

Looks like two very strong line-ups getting ready for the Premiership - just a shame I cannot be there this weekend !

Augustus and Graham withdraw due to injury. Pollock and Scott-Young step in.
So, there’s that.

Could have done without that looking at the bath team.

Well looks like my prediction this week should have been the other way round. If this is almost our first XV then I'm afraid we are in for a long and disappointing season.

There may be many areas that caused frustration
But the record books will show a win
And a lot of positives to come out of that win
But also a lot of things need a bit of work
Defence Defence oh have I mentioned Defence

Does anyone have Vass' number?
I know changing defensive patterns takes time but that first 25 minutes was atrocious.

We were just seriously out muscled. Things improved when Moon and Lockett came on. Surely at least one of them should have started when Truckie and Graham dropped out?

I know it’s possibly an illusion and I know they are all big up close and personal but many is the time we’ve stood back and thought Saints look a lot smaller than many other sides……..how is it that we can lose so many players between team announcement and kick-off ?

Have just watched the highlights which did seem to suggest we were beaten up up front in the first half at least. However we did seem to have a bit more imagination and in Tommy Freemen have a Ben Cohenesque winger. He looked a class above and converted the merest whiff of an opportunity into a try.

It was noticeable just how switched on the players that have featured previously this year were, the likes of Freeman, Seabrook, even Waller and Langdon.
Perhaps, after a runout against Doncaster, the 1st team will be ready for Sale.
On a positive note, I don't think I'll have any concerns if Pollock comes on in a league match. Awesome to see him out pace Cokanasinga! Lewis and Coles might have competition of lurking on the wing.

It will be an interesting team selection next week. It should be a game that we would win easily but there are clearly some players that need an extra run out after yesterday and also some re thinking of the pack if we dont have a number 8 (lets hope Sam was nothing much). With Manny going off after 5 minutes the props will have to get prepared.
Didn't really notice much difference in the defence for the first 40 minutes. Will look better against a Championship team but might hide some faults for the Sale game?

It would be interesting to know what the coaches made of the performance?
Clearly with the selections we didn't go out to win the competition but use it to try combinations and give game time to more players while developing systems and plays. As such I don't see the wins as any more or less important than the defeats.
With defence having been such a major problem for so long I wouldn't have thought they would have been at all happy with that, but who knows maybe there were other aspects that mattered more as goals for the match?

I see that last year's premiership champions have been similar to us both is terms of selection and tries conceeded.
I can't see that happening when the league starts proper, hopefully the same will be true of us.

If my maths is correct I make that twenty nine tries scored against thirty three tries conceded in six games. Even allowing for all the theories about trying combinations and slowly warming up prior to the trip to Sale, I don’t see our current style of rugby winning too many trophies. Our defence needs to be miserly not profligate.

At least it is a positive response rather than the normal we will learn from this waffle.
Hopefully a real kick up the rear prior to the more meaningful competitions starting.

Let's hope so. Or it will be a very short season - for me!
