English players are just not good enough

Carlos Alberto and then Baldini a member of Cappello's team said much the same thing. " We need to work on their technique" England posses in my opinion one attacking player who the necessary technical qualities. That player is Joe Cole : he is able to improvise, if the ball its not played perfectly to him,. he is able to adapt to difficult conditions because he has the control
The Croatians performed better than England because their players being technically superior were better able to handle the wet condition's Many times have we heard ? "We have to pass it better" We have to keep hold of the ball better" That has been the norm, England have played good football about twice in the last 12 years. Everyone remembers the Holland match because the performance was so unusual.
We do have good players, but they still have technical deficiencies. Gerrard is a lot of peoples favourite player. He is a superior driving English midfielder with a great shot. Yet somehow for England he is always a let down. Rooney is the same he was hailed as boy wonder, but somehow went 3 years without a goal in a competitive international.
The media hyping up players beyond their true abilities does not help. The latest player to be hyped is David Bentley. I can't think of many top International squads that he would get a look in. If he is the great hope for the future then more misery may await us.
The problem isn´t lack of technique it´s the SPEED at which our game is played. If you could suddenly plonk the PL in Italy and temporarily change the mind set of the English players to slow the game down you´d see much more technique. Conversely, if you did the same for the Italian players and they suddenly had to play at high velocity you´d see a lot more mistakes.
Watch the English PL players when they are warming up - they can all do the control, flips and somersaults blah blah - even the "donkey" centre-halfs!

Foreign players come here and rise to the top. Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard would not be a success in other leagues.
The velocity of the game has A LOT to do with how technique can influence it in my view.

Look at the English/British players that have gone abroad before and been a success.
Souness, Brady, Robinson, Owen, Woodcock, Keegan, Woodgate, McManaman to name a few off of the top of my head.
All that 'not good enough' stuff is total cr@p.
Italians being talked about as great players because they won the world cup. It wasn't being 'technically superior' that won them the trophy, it was boring the pants off everyone else.
By the same token, look how many foreigners come over here and fail.
For every successful foreiner there are many that fall short.
In your article you say Gerrard for England "is always a let down", yet was voted not only player of the match again, but also Englands best player by the fans.
Clearly, you watch a lot of football but have never played it in reality (just like most of the 'experts' in the English game)
Why do you think the English game is mainly based on speed???
Is it the crowed driving them to play at speed? is it the wind? NO! Its their football education and technique! If you think the English players are good enough, why haven't they won ANYTHING in 50 years???
The English players are not educated in the same was as they do in spain or Italy.
They are getting better only because the coaches are getting better.

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to as well.
Or Portugal for that matter?
Italy
we know about. Not recently and not since the CL started.
Istanbul 2005 Dont be tryin to haibrush our 5th star out of the books.Your not related to Gary Neville by any chance
Well yes Portugal beat us twice, both on penalties and one of those was in their own back yard after Campbell's perfectly good goal was disallowed and the other was after that cheat Ronaldo got Rooney sent off.
Surely a much technically superior side wouldn't need to go to penalties in their back yard and then against 10 men would they?
And still like Spain and others, won nothing in that period of 50 years or more.
Your article is so flawed that if I were of the PC brigade, I'd be waving the racist card.
That line always makes me laugh tbh because, yes we may have 55 million (loads more if you count the illegal's), but not all of those are English or available to play for England.
Croatia outplayed us because of bad tactics employed by McClaren and because they were the better side that means all English players are poor???
Keeping the ball or adopting the long ball game is a tactic used by coaches. It doesn't mean players can't do the other.

I´ve probably played more football than you - and I reached a decent level too I´ll have you know.
@#$%&!

Thats the reason the England team don't gel. The managers all seem to think that, pick the big name players and it's got to work.
An example of this was when the Barry/Gerrard partnership appeared to work better than the Lampard/Gerrard combination but McClaren reverted back to his 'big names'.
If you took the best 11 players in the world and put that team together, they probably wouldn't gel together and you'd find that add a few 'smaller names' and the team would look a lot more impressive.
