And so here we are, welcome back to football! Wolves play again after the well documented 25-day gap, I wonder if you enjoyed it or been lost? Personally, I’ll be pleased to see the Old Gold shirts (depending on any saft decisions to play in an away shirt) as Wolves travel to West Ham’s London Stadium. Wolves have seven matches to go, 12 points behind our opponents and can still aim to avoid a couple of more unwanted statistics. More of them in a bit.
After the extended break, Wanderers have a few new injury problems, the Doc won’t feature, nor will Johnstone whose shoulder injury may rule him out for the rest of this season. It’ll be up to the rest of the squad to now find the necessary spirit, after the Hammers, Leeds away and Spurs at home beckon! For this fixture, will the fact Nuno and his West Ham side have played competitively in the interim be an advantage? Will the heartbreak of their quarter final defeat against Leeds be deflating or galvanising? Don’t forget Wolves beat West Ham 3-0 at home in early January, the first win of the season, well deserved and set an uplift in form.
So, what unwanted statistics can Wolves look to avoid in the remaining matches? The first is our lowest topflight league points total since football was invented in 1992. Currently this stands at 25 points when the Mick and Terry Connor led squad capitulated to the bottom of the table in 2011-12. Currently, on 17 points with seven games to go, we need another nine points. Is this achievable? In the balance I’d say. The other is hauling ourselves off the bottom of the table and leapfrogging Burnley. The Clarets are on 20 points; however, we play them on the last day at Turf Moor so keeping in touch would be ideal and there is only a two-goal separation in GD. Much more doable in my opinion!
Okay these targets are only of academic interest at best but it’s summat!
The match is being televised by Sky with an 8pm to get this weekend’s premier league fixtures off to a start. A great one for the fans to get to, as always on a Friday.

Absolute shambolic, all Goals avoidable, total gifts for west Ham.
A Gutless and spineless performance from the team.
Edwards sub changes 2nd half actually made things worse, we just fell apart.
Easily the worst performance under Edwards.
What have they been doing for the last 25 days, it was like they had never played together before.
Seasons end can't come soon enough.
I hope the majority of this team are shown the door they aint fit to wear that wolves shirt.

Overall second best, our loss is Nuno’s gain, and as Spurs have slipped into the relegation, good luck to him.
This season has been a write off for months now so only next season to look forward to with what will be a very different squad and possibly yet another manager at the helmet. Happy days.
