As this season rolls towards its conclusion, the fixtures keep coming and today Wolves have (yet!!) another opportunity to get off the bottom of the table. Is there a realistic chance of this actually happening in this penultimate home match? Wolves are seeking their first goal since 16th March (it’s only 3 matches …. But it’s not looking good) and Sunderland come off the back of the last two matches having conceded nine, including a 5-0 home drubbing by Nottingham Forest last weekend, their worst since 1950. The facts tell us Wolves haven’t lost any of their last seven home games versus the Black Cats but it’s the first Molineux clash since 2017!!
With 23 defeats already this season, apparently already the equal most in a 38-match season, Wolves are just two of our all-time record of 25 from 1983/84 …. Of course, that was in the days of 42 games! We won six that season too, only three to go then, the future is bright for May! Oh, and by the way we have managed 18 blanks this season so far, another record it appears!
Overall, Wolves were unlucky to lose last week versus Spurs, two very poor sides on the day. Wolves missed chances, as did Spurs, sadly they managed the scrappy undeserved winner. I watched MotD when I got home, Steph Houghton summarising how Spurs were improving under De Zerbi. It was, in my humble opinion, a pile of total fantasy, they were dreadful, but that’s punditry these days!! Well, the fans were on form on the day, getting behind the team, despite that turgid first half, and terrific chanting of ‘you’re going down with the Wanderers!!’ Gallows humour at its finest.
Naturally what we need is goals. Last week we had Rodrigo and Armstrong up front, both vertically challenged, who had no chance against the, by comparison, the giant Spurs centre halves. Don’t get me wrong, they worked bloody hard, however the chances were slim picking, although Armstrong did have a near post headed opportunity in the second half. Goals are the issue, so perhaps the squad disruption with Mane and tolu needs to be set aside and give the big chap a go from the off. Tolu to start for me, though surely, he will be off soon? Mane needs to bulk up, however in the interim, he needs to work on his quality and speed of passing as he is easily knocked off the ball. He should still start in my opinion. A plus, in terms of pure effort this season is Santi Bueno, so I’d like to see him come August, and in the team today.
Today is a 3pm kick off on a day when the football league finishes, bar the play offs. I will be shouting for the slim chances of seeing Wolves play at Plymouth next season. Talking of which, did anyone see the bomb go off yesterday? In terms of the match, I think I’ll be tuning into Burrows and Thommo to provide an honest commentary.

1-1 after the Ballard red card hair pull but Wolves couldn’t beat them. Limp and lame. Mosquera couldn’t kick a ball, Mane was dead on his feet and Tolu, well , not much.
Even accounting for the defensiveness you expect from a weak relegated team it was bad. And I’m afraid to say , Edwards could clearly have made changes and either couldn’t or wouldn’t, so terrible tactics from him. Think it would be a mistake to start in the Championship with him still in charge (whatever Fosun do)
Another awful 90 minutes of football.
Black cats keep 11 men on the pitch and there would of only been one winner.
Bringing the kid edozie on with 1 minute left of injury time was an insult to him.
Edwards is not doing himself many favours with his strange substitutions is he.
Not the man for me to take us forward unfortunately.
Seasons end can't come quick enough.

It all sounded drab and unexciting and the Thommo analysis that we don’t have enough drive or ability to turn the tables on a side down to 10 men. Too slow and we didn’t put them under pressure. We are finishing this season like a defeated lame animal, though we managed a goal!!
Mane was under the spotlight, why is he looking knackered at his age? He’s lost all confidence and losing the ball for fun. Tolu, missed another gift, just another lacklustre 90 minutes at Molineux. Glad I wasn’t there, a few of me mates travelled up.
Some anti Edwards chanting could be heard towards the end in response to his substitutions. I have always liked the man, but am having real reservations about Rob leading us into the new season now. Motivation is a factor (lack of it) and our confidence in general is in the boots. I don’t think he’ll be gone, but with an exodus in the closed season (both the decent and substandard ones) getting the right replacements is key, parachute or no parachute money and we need a team with an insight and ability to pull in the players. Having said that it’s certain we won’t be going for the likes of Neves and Jota any more, that Fosun vision went long ago.
All a bit depressing tonight as a Wolves fan, still I’m going up for Fulham!! It’ll be torture but the pre match stuff is always good.
