Tranmere's Striker Signs Long Term Contract

Just hours before the Bournemouth game, Tranmere's top goalscorer, Iain Hume, put pen to paper. This deal will now keep him at the club till 2007. This is very reinsuring for fans, who had feared he will be leaving to go to Preston. Hume already has 8 goals, but vows to score more.

Tranmere received a boost before last nights game with Bournemouth with the news that Striker Iain Hume has signed a new contract that will keep him at Prenton Park until 2007.

Hume became Tranmere's youngest ever player to pull on a Rovers shirt, aged only 16. Since then he has had an amazing career for someone who is still only just 21. He has played for his country, Canada at all levels, scored in every competition Tranmere have played in while he's been at the club, and won huge praise from everyone around the country. He has also won player awards such as, Player Of The Tournament in the Under 20's World Cup, and winning Tranmere's Young Player Of The Season award twice and Goal Of The Season last year. So only good seems likely for the youngster.

Tranmere are believed to have turned down a bid of around £500,000 from Preston North End for Hume around a month ago with Hume stating at the time that it was his desire to remain at Prenton Park for the immediate future.

The signing of the new contract will be a boost to Rovers fans who watched Hume celebrate the new extended term with the opening goal against Bournemouth last night and comes only days after young midfielder Danny Harrison signed a new deal also until 2007.

Rovers youngster Neil Ashton meanwhile has signed for League Two side Shrewsbury Town on loan for the remainder of the season.
