Nicko Claims Place In Dream Team

Goalkeeping legend, Eric Nixon has today won the Total tranmere Rovers Dream Team poll for the goalkeeping spot. Nicko, as he was known by all Rovers fans, has had 3 different spells at the club, his last him enjoying himself as the goalkeeping coach.

Eric Nixon, or Nicko, has always been a firm fans favourtie, and this was clearly shown as he wiped of close competition from John Achterberg, to seal his place in the Dream Team Starting XI.
Nicko's Tranmere career started when he come on loan from his boyhood team, Manchester City. Nixon impressed alot and later that season earned himself a £60,000 move and he didn't fail to live upto his price tag.
After his move Nixon played for 10 years at Tranmere earning a huge 386 appearances. This included two seasons being away on loan at three different clubs.
The 6ft 4 goalkeeper had a warmth with the fans and is remembered for his amount of charisma. After 8 seasons with the club, Nixon spent two whole seasons away on loan, which started with Reading, thten Blackpool and finally Bradford.
These loan appearances where then followed by a permanent transfer to Stockport for the sum of £100,000.
Eric then spent season 1998-99 on loan, once again, at Wigan, before he found his way back at Tranmere. This time earning himself a contract as the goalkeeping caosch.
Nixon has stayed that way for five years now, and retired in 2003 after being forced into playing some games due to suspensions and injuries to first team keepers.
The last game nixon played was away at Crewe when we lost 2-0 in Sept 2002.
