Scottish League Division 3, Saturday 1 March 2003, Raydale Park, Gretne. Gretna 2 (Thomson OG 3, Fairbairn 22) Montrose 2 (McKechnie 48, 90)

After a battling performance midweek against Morton, Mo headed south looking to continue the good work.

Gretna provided stiff opposition and they went ahead after 3 minutes when Thomson headed an own goal.

The borderers went further ahead after 22 minutes through Fairbairn when McCheyne was at fault and at half-time it looked like the good recent form had been in vain.

However, Gregor McKechnie had other ideas. The striker, who has been criticised for lack of committment in these pages of late, struck after 48 minutes to maintain our interest in the tie.

Crucially, with 2 minutes remaining, Skinner was ordered off for Gretna after kicking Barry Donachie and McKechnie doubled his tally with an injury time leveller which moves Montrose to within a point of Elgin and Queen's Park with a game in hand.
