TWO REDS BUT NO ZEDS

Scottish Football League Division Three, Tuesday 2 December 2003, Links Park, Montrose. MONTROSE 0 (Gibson sent off (79)) QUEEN'S PARK 0 (Sinclair sent off (69))

This match was billed for a 7.30 kick-off, but started at 7.45 after the Queen's team were delayed on the way up from Glasgow. The hassle didn't seem to do them any harm and they started stronger. However, the Mo quickly got their act together and began to create numerous chances. The Spiders defence was well organised, and although a couple of their players were booked for hefty tackles, the game was all square at half-time.

Both teams energed as they had been in the first half at the start of the second, but within minutes, Queen's boss, Brannigan, made aa double substitution. The two burly subs wasted little time in making their presence felt, and began to unsettle Montrose, who had been fairly comfortable until then.

Montrose brought on Kevin Webster for Scott Michie who had done well down the right.

Sinclair, who had been booked in the first half, made a rash tackle just outside the box on 69 minutes and he had to walk.

Montrose sent on Black for Sharp and tried to make the extra man count, but the solid Queen's defence were equal to it.

Gibson was shown a straight red on 79 minutes when he foolishly overreacted to being obstructed just outside the Queen's penalty area and kicked out at the defender.

Queen's were obviously happy with the draw, and although Farnan came on for Smart, his wayward passing had little impact.

So it's seven without loss for Henry Hall, but this is one he would have been looking to win. It's probably the most vocal I've heard him during the match.

Special mention has to be made of Martin Wood's effort during the match. Woody's not having the best of times in front of goal, but he worked his socks off for the team tonight, bombing around the Queen's defenders to win the ball back.
