CIS Cip, First Round. Tuesday 9 August 2005, Links Park, Montrose. MONTROSE 0 CLYDE 1 (Brighton (11)). Montrose battled well in this match but their first division opponents were too strong. Montrose took the field in blue with Clyde wearing their change strip, all red.
Montrose welcomed Willie Martin back to the squad, but keeper, Andy Reid, only made the bench after picking up an injury at the weekend.
The game was only 11 minutes old when Clyde scored from the first real opening. Williams crossed fro mthe right wing and former Ranger Tom BRIGHTON was in the right place to head powerfully past Butter.
In 13 minutes Foxy took a freekick just outside the area but his shot was just over.
Montrose survived a goalmouth stramash in 17 minutes, putting the ball out for a corner.
Clyde conitued to look dangerous and Butter had to dive to his left to save on 23 minutes.
Montrose were forced to bring on McLean for Watson after 27 minutes, the big striker hobbling off.
Referee, Alan Freeland, was having his customary rubbish game, with some bizarre decisions and failing to book players for some hefty challenges.
One such challenge was by McGowan who took the legs of Elliot Smith on 32 minutes.
The referee finally took action against Malone with a minute to go in the first half, and the defender saw yellow for a bad challenge on Webster.
Montrose could have equalised just ion the hour when a Kerrigan header dropped nicely for McLean inside the box, but he was crowded out and earned a corner.
McHale then picked up a booking for a two-footed tackle on Kerrigan.
Willie Martin missed a glorious chance to equalise in 66 minutes. Webster shot and the ball was deflected into the big striker's path, but he swung at it first time and mishit it wide.
In 69 minutes, Miller replaced Williams for Clyde, and shortly after, Montrose sent on McKenzie for Doyle in a straight swap.
Martin had another opportunity after 80 minutes when he was put through by Webster but his shot was easily saved.
McKenzie became the first Mo player in the book for a foul.
With a couple of minutes to go, Clyde sent on Hunter for Brighton, and Montrose replaced Martin with Donachie.
However there was little more action of note apart from Clyde's Bryson ending up in the book for dissent.
