MO SNUFF OUT THE SPIDERS

Scottish Football League Division Three, Saturday 11 February 2006, Links Park, Montrose. MONTROSE 0 QUEEN'S PARK 0. Another good draw for the Mo, although Queen's Park should have finished off at least one of their many chances.

The Mo's defence had a makeshift look about it, with Fergie returning to centre half alongside Hay, and Euan Hall and Stephen Fraser occupying uncustomary full-back positions.

The Montrose back four withstood a barrage of attack by Queen's Park. On 13 minutes, Ferry should have fot his shot on target after the Mo gave the ball away at the back, but he sent it over.

Quinn went close on 22 minutes after a good 1-2 at the dge of the box, but shot wide.

On 28 minutes a Spiders header flew just wide and on 34 minutes Harvey shot just wide from a good position.

All Montrose had to show for themselves was a speculative Davidson shot from outside the box early on that was easily saved by Crawford.

However on 36 minutes, Hall played a lovely through ball down the right but it was just too string for Middleton and the keeper gathered.

The manager sent on Brash for McManus at half-time, which allowed Fraser to get forward.

The change almost paid off in 51 minutyes. Fraser made a fine run down the left wing but no-one was available to knock home his cross.

Fergie made way for Russell in 55 minutes, which led to a bit of a reshuffle. Hay and Brash became the centre pairing with Russell on the left wing.

Davidson had another long range effort on the hour which went just wide.

Queen's Park sent on Clark and Murray for Harvey and Kettlewell in 77 and 83 minutes, and Montrose countered with Watson for Fotheringham who had a poor game in the middle.

Trouten and Russell had a bit of a tussle at the standside touchline, and the young winger entered the referee's book for a bit of a kick at his opponent.

That was about it in a poor game overall, although Montrose will be pleased to have taken 2 points from 2 very tough games. They must start putting goals away soon and next week's tie against Albion Rovers is a good place to start.
