January Transfers looming.

Midland teams prepare for the annual assault on the transfer market, trying to tempt players to the Midlands. no mean task if you look at previous seasons.

It’s that time of year again. January is looming, individuals will do battle with hangovers, women across the country will fight each other for the best bargains in various shoe sales, and football clubs will inevitably start thinking about who to bring in or let go.

West Brom fans will undoubtedly be wondering whether any of their stars will be leaving during the January transfer window. Both Spurs and Arsenal are reported to be interested in defender Curtis Davies, although Tony Mowbray seems determined to keep hold of the young defender.

In terms of bringing players in, Mowbray has made it clear that the Baggies need to strengthen. Mowbray is searching for muscle to build a squad that can start to challenge promotion hopefuls and local rivals Birmingham City. "I've talked a lot about the balance of the squad and I don't think the balance is right to win consecutively or win game after game after game". Mowbray is said to have been looking closely at Rotherham striker Will Hoskins and has also been linked with a move for Manchester United and England winger Kieron Richardson. There is also talk that Mowbray is likely to try and tempt Portsmouth keeper Dean Kiely away from Fratton Park this January.

For Wolves however, January looks less certain. With funds looking tight it is as yet still uncertain whether Sir Jack will make money available for transfer targets. Wolves have also been linked with a move for Rotherham striker Will Hoskins, but it looks more likely that McCarthy will have to rely on loan signings to strengthen his squad. It also looks unlikely that the Wolves board will be willing to shell out the £500,000 asking price from Liverpool for Midfielder Darren Potter, meaning a return to Anfield is more than likely for the young player, despite his desire to stay at Wolves.

On the brighter side, Winger Michael Kightly looks set to sign a permanent deal with Wolves after moving from Grays Athletic last month.
