A round up of January's transfer activity

So another transfer window has been and gone, and for once January seems to have been a busy month for the Baggies, with two on-loan signings making permanent deals and the arrival of three new faces. Albion also wave goodbye to no less than 7 players. Three making permanent switches and four leaving the club on loan deals. We look at the ins and outs at the Hawthorns this January.

West Bromwich Albion have secured the permanent services of two on-loan players, strikers Sherjill MacDonald and Ishmael Miller.  MacDonald has made his Baggies move a permanent one in a £200,000 deal from Apeldoorn.  But it is the signing of on-loan Ishmael Miller from Manchester City that will most impress Baggies fans.  Miller has scored an impressive 10 goals since arriving at the Hawthorns over the summer, and his permanent signing for a fee of £900,000 rising to a potential £1.4 million with performance related add-ons ensures that 17 goal hitman Kevin Phillips has a reliable partner up front. 

Albion have also secured the services of South Korean midfielder Kim Do-Heon, who joins from Seongnam Ilhwa Chumna on-loan for the remainder of the season.  Mowbray believes that once acclimatised to the English game the 25 year old will be an important asset.  Baggies may wish to make this a permanent move in the summer.  Goalkeeper Michal Danek has also joined on-loan until the end of the season. 

West Brom have also paid £200,000 for Livingston winger Graham Dorrans, although they will have to wait until the summer before seeing his arrival at the Hawthorns.  Albion have agreed that Dorrans can remain at Livingston until the end of the season.  Dorrans is a proven goal scorer.  He is top scorer at Livingston this season with 10 goals. 

Baggies fans wave a permanent goodbye to no less than three players.  Richard Chaplow has signed for Preston North End for a fee of £800,000 and Ronnie Wallwork has left for Sheffield Wednesday on a free.  The John Hartson saga also finally came to an end this week with the club deciding to pay him off, despite the striker having a contact which did not end until the summer.  Despite having a loan spell with fellow Championship side Norwich and reported interest from several lower league sides, Hartson has failed to impress, and it is unclear what the future holds in store for the former Welsh International. 

Finally, 4 players have moved on to loan spells, with Shelton Martis securing a deal with Scunthorpe United, Tinhino joining Barnsley, Stuart Nicholson joining Wrexham and Luke Daniels to Motherwell.  All loan deals have been secured until the end of the current season.
