Charlton v WBA...Last time they met

Last time these two sides met in the league, is December of 2007 the league looked quite a different picture. At least for Alan Pardew’s Charlton Athletic side it did. Positioned third in the table Charlton were very much in the race for automatic promotion. The Baggies were already in the automatic promotion places, knowing that win over the Addicks would see them go top.
In true traditional style the game was a high scoring one for Tony Mowbray’s men as they hit four past their promotion rivals.
Charlton took a 37th minute lead over Albion, Iwelumo the goal scorer. But the Baggies were back on level terms before the break as Roman Bednar hit a 43rd minute equaliser.
Albion took the lead five minutes after the restart with a Zoltan Gera goal, but on 74 minutes Charlton levelled through McLeod in the 74th minute. But two late goals from Gera (80 mins) and Phillips (84 mins) were enough to secure all three points for the Baggies, and see them snatch top place from Bristol City.
These two sides also met in the 3rd round of this years FA Cup – a competition which the Baggies have now secured a Semi Final place in. But it was a shaky start for Albion, who were forced into a replay at the Hawthorns after goals from Zhi and Miller had drawn a stalemate at the Valley.
The replay wasn’t much more comfortable either, a third meeting in just over four weeks between the two sides produced a two all draw after 90 minutes, with goals from Bednar and Morrison for Albion, and Ambrose and Dickson for Charlton, the later of which coming deep into second half injury time to force extra time.
After an unfruitful 30 minutes of extra time the game moved on to penalties, Albion eventually winning 4-3 after Greening had had his penalty saved, and Zhi and Varney having penalties saved and missed.
