Phillips contract talks put on hold

Phil Smith, the agent of West Bromwich Albion striker Kevin Phillips, has revealed this afternoon that talks between the player and club about a new contract have been put on hold. The agent has reassured fans that this is purely to allow all at the club to concetrate on achieving promotion, although he has admitted that the player is 'open minded' about his future.

Phillips has quite literally been a match winner for the Baggies this season, most recently coming off the bench on Tuesday night to net two goals in Albion's eventual 3-1 victory at Bloomfield Road.

But talks of a new contract will remain firmly on hold until the season ends and Albion know what division they will be playing next season.  But gaffer Tony Mowbray has indicated this week already that he is keen to secure the services of the 34 year old for at least another 12 months.

He wouldn't be the first to play in the Prem at 36 years of age.
