Gera to be given decision deadline

Midfielder and fans favourite Zoltan Gera looks set to be given a deadline by which he must decide on the future of his Albion career. The news breaks amidst rumours this morning that Kevin Phillips has already rejected contract offers. Gera's future at the Hawthorns has been unsettled for sometime, and he has been linked with moves to Premiership sides since Albions relegation 2 years ago.

Gera has twice over the past two years been linked with moves away from the Hawthorns during the January transfer window.  But despite interest from Premiership sides such as Middlesbrough and Wigan, the Hungarian International has honoured his 4 year contract with West Brom.

But that four years is set to expire this summer, although Tony Mowbray remains confident that an agreement can be made to keep the midfielder at the Hawthorns should they secure promotion in the next 2 games.

The Baggies could be promoted on Saturday without even having kicked a ball if results go their way.  But Mowbray is trying to keep a cool head, and of Gera he admits that it might take some time to reach a decision.  But Mowbray hinted heavily that whilst every provision would be made to allow Gera the time he needs to reach a decision, the process cannot afford to drag on for long as the gaffer tries to prepare a squad for next season.

Mowbray has already conceded that losing Gera might be a reality even if his side are successful in clinching promotion, with a whole host of more established top flight sides and a number of foreign sides already expressing an interest.

But Mowbray will urge Gera to do the right thing all around, and that includes giving the boss plenty of time to find his replacement should his decision be to leave.
