Player Profile: Juan Carlos Menseguez

Argentine Juan Carlos Menseguez moved to West Bromwich Albion on 2nd February 2009, just minutes before the January transfer window closed at 5pm. The 24 year old striker will be utilised as a winger at Albion, with Mowbray’s vision that he will add width to the midfield rather than challenge for a place up front.
He joins on loan for the remainder of the season, with the Baggies already reportedly having sealed an option to buy for around £3 million.
Born on 18th February 1984, the 24 year old began playing football in 1989 at the age of 5, joining a local side called River Plate in Buenos Aires. He spent his entire youth career with the club, but never made a professional debut as he was snapped up by German side VfL Wolfsburg.
He was one of many Argentines snapped up by German clubs, who enjoyed a special and privileged relationship with Argentine clubs due to the many Volkswagen factories throughout Argentina.
Menseguez made 110 appearances for the German side in four years, scoring just 5 goals before moving back to his homeland in 2007 to join San Lorenzo.
Having made 34 appearances and scored 6 goals for the Argentine club, he was snapped up by Tony Mowbray to join the Baggies in January 2009. The 5’9” versatile player is happy to take on a role up front, or in midfield.
