Mowbray rings the changes in survival fight

Baggies boss Tony Mowbray stunned fans at the Hawthorns this afternoon with a bizarre double substitution in a gamble which very nearly paid off. Supporters were more than a little bemused as full backs Paul Robinson and Gianni Zuiverloon were taken off with 15 minutes left and replaced with midfielder's Graham Dorrans and Borja Valero

With just Shelton Martis and Jonas Olsson left in defence, the unique formation in which cover at the back was to be provided by midfield often showed itself in a bizarre 2-6-2 line up.

Yet the gamble seemed to be working, as with 7 minutes left Robert Koren provided a vital equaliser for a rejuvenated Baggies side.

But 1-1 is how it stayed, and with Albion still 7 points a drift at the bottom of the table the great escape of 2009 seems to be a diminishing prospect.
