Rumour mill goes crazy as Baggies prepare for gaffer search

In the funny old world of football, it comes as no big surprise that the rumour mill about who might become the next Baggies boss is running so fast the cogs are about to fall off. It may well be uncertain times at the Hawthorns at present, but for now at least Tony Mowbray is still well and truly at the helm.

It is however looking increasingly likely that Mowbray could be making the long journey north to Scottish club Celtic, who if the press are to be believed are more than prepared to meet the financial demands placed upon them for luring Mowbray away from the Hawthorns.

So, we thought we'd jump on the band wagon and examine just a few of the names thrown into the premature hat of replacements for Tony Mowbray.

Rather surprisingly the name of Alan Shearer has cropped up on more than one occasion.  The Geordie legend was expected to have a deal all stitched up at Newcastle United by now, but with the ex England and Newcastle man appearing to be holding off from making a deal at St James' Park the idea that he could instead look to fellow relegated club Albion is as feasible as it is ludicrous.

Another name being thrown around the never ending rumour mill is that of Darren Ferguson.  With a proven promotion record at Peterborough United, the son of Sir Alex could be an attractive proposition for Albion should they find themselves in search of a new manager.

For now at least, it all remains pure speculation.  But with Celtic stepping up their campaign to bag Mowbray, the real story looks set to unravel itself over the next few days.
