Mowbray departs for Celtic

Weeks of speculation was finally brought to a close yesterday as Tony Mowbray made the move from Championship West Brom to SPL side Celtic. Assistant manager Mark Venus and coach Peter Grant have also joined Mowbray in the move to Scotland. Present Celtic coach Neil Lennon will remain as part of the managerial team.

After initially refusing to do so, the SPL club bowed to pressure from West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace for £2 million compensation. It is believed that this sum has now been settled and that the Midlands club will not receive further compensation for the loss of Venus and Grant.

Peace has wished Mowbray all the best for the future, although he admits that losing Mowbray is a blow. Since his arrival at the Hawthorns in October 2006 Mowbray led Albion to a Championship playoff final, which they lost to Derby County, but to their most recent successful year the following season after winning promotion as Champions and a FA Cup semi final at Wembley.
