Di Matteo grateful for Albion's stable financial state

West Brom gaffer Roberto Di Matteo has this evening spoke of his relief for Albion's stable finances in what is fast becoming a time of crisis for many football clubs. Crystal Palace were the latest to fall victim to football's sorry state when they went into administration on Monday, and they are not the first side to fall foul of a 10 point deduction.

Premiership outfit Portsmouth will face a court hearing in late february to decide what if any action will be taken over their financial irregularities.

As football faces what is easily it's toughest test in recent times, Di Matteo told the BBC:

"We are in a fortunate situation because the club only spend what they earn.  You hope people will start realising that they can't live above their means. If everybody does it, the competition will be more balanced".

Albion have faced tough criticism in the past for their lack of activity during January transfer windows, but they are still hoping to capitalise of Crystal Palace's misfortunes by capturing 19 year old Victor Moses for £1.5 million.  Di Matteo commented that "We are working behind the scenes, trying to get a few players out and a couple of fresh faces in, but nothing has been sealed yet.  But we won't pay over the odds. If we feel that a player is costing us more than his value, we'll pull out of the race."

Di Matteo ended his stark warning to football clubs over their financial states by adding "It's great for the supporters to know that there will always be a club here."
