WEST BROM striker Lee Hughes has played down reports that he was involved in a bust-up with some of his team-mates after Saturday's defeat to Everton. Reports suggested that a number of senior members of the side had a go at Hughes saying he wimped out of tackles.

Hughes has struggled since returning to The Hawthorns from Coventry in August and he is angry that his commitment to the club has come under the microscope.

"My commitment to West Bromwich Albion should not be in doubt," said Hughes.

"I love this club and for anyone to suggest otherwise is rubbish. That I want to do well for it goes without saying which is why I've been coming in for extra training on my days off to improve my fitness.

"I want to establish myself in The Premiership and any accusations of me not pulling my weight should be made to my face."

Baggies boss Gary Megson admitted "harsh words were spoken in the dressing room" after the game as his side slumped to another defeat to leave them sitting second from bottom of the table.

"Harsh words were spoken in the dressing room but I am not going to go into details," said Megson.

"I would be concerned if our players were anything other than unhappy in the dressing room immediately after losing a Premiership game.

"It shows they care and we are going to need every ounce of that spirit and passion in the coming weeks and months.
