Hi, there, my name is John Mainwaring and as you may be aware, I have recently launched the above CD, with the express intention of raising money for the Jeff Astle Appeal together with any subsequent appeal that WBA may launch. A donation is made, to the fund, from the sale of each CD. The song is dedicated to my boyhood hero Jeff Astle !

Following recent plays on local radio , together with interviews and press coverage, sales of the CD are progressing well.

An Albion mad musician who has played along side David Bowie has written a song dedicated to Jeff Astle to help raise funds for a memorial to his football hero.

John who heads the Bowie tribute band Jean Genie said he felt compelled to write the song after hearing of the death of Jeff.

‘Jeffs death had the same effect on me as john Lennons, I felt as if I had lost a very close friend and a footballing legend.’

He thought of the song while sitting in the Smethwick End while Albion were beating Norwich City last season.

As an ardent Baggies Supporter he said that through his song he would help keep alive Jeff Astle in the hearts of the Albion Fans and the Black Country in general. ‘It is just me doing my bit for ‘The King’.’
