The Gregan/Cardiff Saga

Could our beloved captain be on his way to the Bluebirds? It certainly looks that way after Bluebirds boss Lennie Lawrence confirmed Gregan wants a move to City

Albion captain Sean Gregan is a wanted man. Cardiff City are the main contenders for Gregan's signature and last night, Cardiff boss Lenny Lawrence explained to IC Wales just why he wants "Greegs" in a Cardiff shirt.

After the Bluebirds 3-2 defeat to Serie A side Lazio, Lawrence said: "I'm concerned about our defending. I've got to try and find an answer. You can see why I'm trying to bring in a holding midfielder,"

"It has moved on a bit with Gregan. We have a desire to sign him and the boy wants to come here.

"We've got to negotiate a price with West Brom. If the price is too big then we're not doing it.

"I've got a reasonable amount of money for Gregan. The price has to be right. The days of Cardiff paying over the odds are long gone.

"We might do a deal by the end of the week - but I don't think it will happen."

Albion boss Gary Megson may well be considering his captains future at the club after telling IC Birmingham "We have had an inquiry from Cardiff,"

"It's up to them to take it further if they want to."

So, it looks like this could be the end of Gregan's Albion career. A move to Cardiff may be Gregan's best option as it looks as if he may struggle to maintain a first-team spot in Albion's team this year, with the signings of midfielders Zoltan Gera and Jonathan Greening as-well as defenders Darren Purse, Martin Albrechtsen, Ricardo Scimeca and Darren Purse. Cardiff have all the capabilities of being a successful club, and with Gregan on board, they have the potential of being a top 6 side this season and maybe even promotion.

Although Gregan did suffer a dip-in-form in the middle of the 2003-2004 campaign, he showed all Baggies supporters just how good a player he is in the final part of the season when he put in man-of-the-match performances every week.

So, the big question...will he or won't he? Stay tuned!
