Harlequins scrum half Oliver Lindsey-Hague and the rest of the England Sevens squad were welcomed to Hong Kong yesterday by their fans.

The squad flew in from Adelaide where they won the Bowl, beating Kenya 33-12, in preparation for the next leg of the IRB World Series, the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens (26-28 March).

England supporters welcomed the squad at a special event where they met their heroes and got pictures and autographs with their favourite players.

Lindsey-Hague, who made his debut in Las Vegas, was amazed to be in the vibrant city, "It's great out here, it's unbelievable I'm really enjoying myself." he said.

"It's busy, humid and lots of people have made the effort to come and meet us which is great.

England face hosts Hong Kong on Friday night before taking on China and Wales on Saturday.

"After meeting our passionate fans I can't wait to get out there on Friday to see what it's like and play in front of a massive crowd. I've never been here before so this is really exciting.

"We've just arrived but this will definitely be a highlight of my trip to Hong Kong." concluded Lindsey-Hague.

England will have another chance to meet their fans on Thursday when they hold an open training session for an England Rugby Travel party.

Ben Ryan's side are now fifth in the Series and will be looking to boost their tally this weekend before their home event, the Emirates Airline London Sevens on May 22 & 23.

Wade in action for England Sevens


Christian Wade is relishing his England Sevens experience and this weekend is no exception as he gets set to run out at the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens (26-28 March).

The 18-year-old London Wasps' wing, who has played in all of the IRB Sevens World Series legs so far this season, can't wait to take to the field at the tournament he's heard so much about.

"I'm excited, I've heard a lot about Hong Kong, the fans, the stadium and the atmosphere so I can't wait." said Wade.

A week after making his debut in Dubai 2009 Wade went on to show his blistering pace and power in George, scoring seven tries to finish joint top try-scorer with his hero William Ryder of Fiji.

"At the start of the season I was injured so didn't get very much game time in Dubai, then in George I was a regular starter and ended up as top try-scorer, which was a definite highlight.

"Since then I've had a couple of good performances but as a team we sometimes struggle to perform as well as we know we can do, we have lots of potential but we haven't made the most of our opportunities." continued Wade.

Last weekend in Adelaide England made a disappointing start losing two pool matches against USA (24-21) and Australia (17-12) but bounced back by beating Papua New Guinea (47-0), France (19-0) and Kenya (33-12) to win the Bowl.

They are now fifth in the IRB Series and with their home event, the Emirates Airline London Sevens coming up in May, Wade is hoping for some of that George magic this weekend.

"We are raring to go because of last week's disappointment and we haven't won much silverware so this is a good opportunity for us to out there and give it our best.

"Sevens has helped me with my general sharpness across the field and it has developed my game awareness, tackling, passing and my attacking skills which has been great, as a winger my game is speed and putting pace on the ball and getting over the line which is what I'm hoping to do this weekend." concluded Wade.

Lindsay-Hague scores two tries for England
England Sevens 45 - 0 Hong Kong

ENGLAND SEVENS got off to the best possible start by beating hosts Hong Kong 45-0 in their opening match of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens (26-28 March).

England scored seven tries with Oliver Lindsay-Hague (Harlequins) and Nick Royle (Fylde) scoring two apiece whilst Christian Wade (London Wasps) showed his blistering pace with an 80 metre charge to the line.

The forwards were clinical, with James Rodwell intercepting a pass for Wade's try and then crossing the line from the restart after receiving Chris Brightwell's (Bedford) inside pass and Tom Powell (Cambridge) added his own effort after the break.

Ben Gollings slotted three first half conversions and Bristol's Mat Turner, who took over the kicking duties at half time, scored two.

Lindsay Hague said, "It's great to be here and I'm really happy I scored two tries. I was really nervous running out in front of such a big crowd but once the match got going the nerves went. I can't wait for tomorrow and we are feeling confident going into day two."

Tomorrow England face Japan at 2.10pm (local time) before taking on Wales at 6.34pm (local time).

Royle scores for England Sevens
England Sevens 45 - 0 Japan

Fylde speedster Nick Royle scored two tries to help secure England's victory against Japan at the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens.

In a repeat performance of last night's 45-0 victory against Hong Kong Royle went over twice to make his tournament total four and add to England's seven tries for the win.

England scored four first half tries, captain Ben Gollings (Gold Coast) adding six points with the boot by converting his own well worked try from the kick off then Royle's two and one from Worcester's Jake Abbott.

It took England four minutes to add to their 26-0 advantage in the second half and with Japan down to six men, after a yellow card, replacement Josh Drauniniu (Royal Navy/Harlequins) slipped through the midfield defence to go in under the posts and convert his own try. James Rodwell (Moseley) added his 15th try of the IRB Sevens World Series from the restart for Drauniniu to convert.

Oliver Lindsay-Hague (Harlequins), who also scored two in last night's victory over Hong Kong, scored after the buzzer showing his pace by outrunning Japan's defence in their own half. Drauniniu's conversion went wide at the posts to finish on 45-0.

England will face Wales at 6.34pm tonight in their last pool match.

England Sevens 26 - 5 Wales

England Sevens recorded their third victory by beating Wales 26-5 in their last pool match of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens (26-28 March).

Ben Ryan's side have been dominant all tournament only conceding five points in three matches after wins against Hong Kong (45-0), Japan (45-0) and now Wales which takes them into tomorrow's Cup competition where they will face Australia.

James Rodwell (Moseley) got England's opening try, his second today, whilst Christian Wade (London Wasps) went in under the posts after running inside from a ruck. Wales had a try disallowed from the restart for obstruction and England's captain Ben Gollings (Gold Coast) slotted both conversions to send his team in 14-0 up at the break.

Wales came back at England within the first minute of the second half kicking deep to steal the ball from Oliver Lindsay-Hague (Harlequins) to power over but failed to convert. Lindsay-Hague returned the favour two minutes later with a charge down the wing to go in under the posts for Gollings to convert.

Nick Royle (Fylde) scored his third of the day after receiving Gollings' offload to go over in the corner before Wales' Ryhs Shellard was sent to the sin bin.

England kick off against Australia in the Cup quarter final at 12.33pm (local time, GMT+8)

TOM POWELL (Cambridge) scored the winning try in the dying seconds beating Australia 26-19 to put England in the Cup semi final of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens (26028 March)

England turned the tables on Australia after they were defeated 12-17 at last weekend's Adelaide Sevens with Powell charging over in the last seconds of the match.

It was a nail biting encounter from start to finish with the scores level in the last minute but with Australia under pressure in their own half England were able to make ground with Ben Gollings (Gold Coast) sending Powell in and then converting for the winning goal.

It was 12 apiece at half time, England's Christian Wade (London Wasps) showing outstanding pace shooting through from the kick off with the opening try and then striking again from inside Australia's half, leaving dust in the face of the Wallabies defence for his second.

England went 19-12 behind early in the second half, Australia testing England's defence from the restart to power over but Moseley's James Rodwell brought England within a conversion in the tenth minute with a fantastic run from inside his own half, Gollings slotted the conversion for the tie.

Oliver Lindsay-Hague (Harlequins) took the restart and it was Lindsay-Hague who made ground but was pulled into touch on the 22, England did well to steal Australia's lineout bringing the ball into the centre for Gollings to carry forward and offload to Powell for the win.

England will face Samoa in the Cup semi final at 4.30pm local time (8.30am GMT) all games are live on Sky Sports.

Samoa 28 - 24 England Sevens

England Sevens lost out on a final place losing to in-form Samoa in the Cup semi final of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens (26-28 March)

England went down fighting 28-24 in a physical encounter which came down to conversions.

Both sides scored four tries each with Samoa just edging England with the boot for the draw.

Chris Brightwell (Bedford) and Oliver Lindsay-Hague (Harlequins) crossed in the first half whilst Bristol's Mat Turner went over in the second after a well timed kick from Ben Gollings (Gold Coast) sent him through on the chase.

Samoa scored quickly after that and then again from the restart and kicked both conversions leaving England trailing 28-19.

James Rodwell (Moseley) went over on the final buzzer but Gollings missed his second attempt at the posts to finish on 24-28.

England add 16 points to their IRB World Series tally with all to play for at their home tournament, the Emirates Airline London Sevens on May 22 & 23.

Head Coach Ben Ryan said, "We lost to Samoa in Dubai last year and then again in the semi final today but they are a very good side. It was four tries each in that match and they just sneaked it, in what was a close affair.

"This side is young and inexperienced but they're learning a lot. We've made some mistakes along the way but to come back from the disappointment of losing pool matches in Adelaide last week to being in the cup semi final this week is progress."

Sorry for all the hicups folks, no idea what was going wrong. Have produced these tables for years now but the system just decide it wanted to fight .........but hey I won in the end
