Rutland no match for first class Cavaliers. Myers 130 in formidable Quarndon total. Southwell no match for A&B. Half-hearted Millers thrashed by Sandiacre.
| The Derbyshire Building Society Premier Cup Semi-Finals The West Indian Cavaliers 153-3 beat Ilkeston Rutland 150-7 by 7 wickets Ilkeston batted first and it soon became clear that they were facing a first class side. All the Cavaliers’ bowlers had had County experience and the Ilkeston batsmen were up against it from the start. There were commendable performances from David Smit (37), and Matt Boyer (31) and it was to the credit of the Ilkeston team that they batted out their 50 overs. The Cavaliers lost three wickets and two straightforward catches were dropped, but they were never in any danger and they coasted to victory in 29.4 overs, with Andrew Jackman 79 and Andy Haye 29 not out. Quarndon 284-5 beat Denby 203 by 81 runs Quarndon batted first and after losing an early wicket they went to town on the Denby bowling. A second wicket partnership between Billy Bagshawe (67) and Gary Myers (130) yielded 159 runs. Myers hit 13 fours and two sixes. Later batsmen maintained the momentum and the final total was truly formidable. Denby went for the runs, of course, but lost wickets in doing so and they were bowled out in 41.4 overs, well short of their target. Steven Bullock made 42 and Michael Deane 34, and for Quarndon Mark Tournier took 3-34. Southwell 162-7 lost to Alvaston & Boulton 165-4 by 6 wickets Southwell batted out their full 50 overs, with their top score coming from A Sedgwick (50). For A&B Carl Beetge took 3-23, and when they went in to bat Mohammed Ayub hit 36 and Haq Nawaz 46. The winning run came after 41.1 overs. Sandiacre Town 293-6 beat Langley Mill 97 by 196 runs Langley Mill were strengthened by the inclusion of Steve Stubbings, but this game turned out to be a one sided affair. Sandiacre piled on the runs, with good knocks from John Trueman (74), Imi Ahmed (48), Rob Attwood (43 not out) and Naeem Akhtar (46). Langley Mill provided a half-hearted response and were skittled out for 97 with Jake Needham taking 3-12 The draw for
